Maryborough Rally Saturday 24 October 2015

Dear Rail Revival Members and Supporters,

Don’t forget the rally in support of additional passenger rail services on the Maryborough line.

This coming Saturday 24th October, 10AM at the IGA Carpark Maryborough… sausage sizzle as well.

This event will have the local ALP Upper House member and Minister for Agriculture, Jaala Pullford in attendance.

While this rally is not organised by the Rail Revival Alliance, we fully support the cause and urge our members and supporters to attend

Kind Regards

Notice of Annual General Meeting

To all members of the Rail Revival Alliance and supporters.

Please be aware that the RRA will be holding its Annual General Meeting in early March 2015.

Date: 1st March 2015
Time: 11:45am
Location: Victorian Goldfields Railway rooms on platform 3, Castlemaine Railway Station

We have invited the new Minister, the Hon Jacinta Allen to be the guest speaker at this meeting.

The business of the day will be to elect the new committee for 2015, to receive the audited accounts of the Association, and to deal with any motions that have been submitted prior to the meeting.

In addition, it is hoped to discuss and review the campaign of the RRA and to look at developing future policy and strategy for the Association.

Please keep this date free.

Coffee and limited refreshments can be purchased at the station from the VGR kiosk.

So some ideas people and what do you think about a “policy and strategy” get-together in a few weeks time.

The Rail revival Alliance wishes to thank the assistance and ongoing cooperation of Victorian Goldfields Railway in providing the rooms for our meeting and the very excellent  service they have afforded us in the past with our train trips.

Family & Community Day – 30 August

To all Rail Revival Members and Supporters

The Rail Revival Alliance is pleased to announce a Family and Community Day to be held on Saturday 30th August.

The day will consist of a trip on the Historic Victorian Goldfields Railway from Castlemaine to Maldon and return.

We will be celebrating the 140 years since  the Castlemaine to Maryborough line was opened and calling for the reopening of the line as part of the Geelong – Goldfields Rail Project.

We will be traveling in early 20th century  wooded passenger cars that have been lovingly restored by Victorian Goldfields Railway.

We leave Castlemaine Station at 11:30am  and will be back by 2:30pm. These times will fit into the current V/Line schedules for trains from both Melbourne and Bendigo.

The cost is a $10 per adult or $20 and you get a Rail Revival T Shirt as well as you ticket. Children travel free.

BBQ Lunch at $15 per head can be arranged with VGR but I will need to let them know prior to the day for catering purposes.

Bookings – email me at

You can send me a cheque in the snail mail to:

Rail Revival Alliance
c/- Post Office

or Direct debit to Bendigo Bank:

If you make a direct debit, please drop me an email or bank receipt, it just helps us keep up with the books.

It should be a wonderful day for families to come and enjoy early spring out through the Muckleford Forest on the way to Maldon. A great day to celebrate Rail Revival.

Timetable and Tickets

Dear Rail Revival  Supporters

I now have all the details of the Rail Revival Trip celebrating the 140 years of the opening of the rail line between Castlemaine and Maryborough. And we will be promoting the Rail Revival cause. We will show just how easy it is to run a rail service between Maryborough – Ballarat and Geelong.

Here is the timetable:

Newport dep 07:23
North Shore dep 08:13 (advertised as 08:08)
Ballarat arr 10:03
Ballarat dep 10:15 (advertised as 09:50)
Maryborough arr 11:18
Maryborough dep 11:35
Ballarat arr 12:39
Ballarat dep 12:45
Geelong arr 14:30
Geelong dep 14:40
North Shore arr 14:50
Southern Cross arr 15:56

We are having to pay just over $5000 for the DERM for the day so unfortunately the costs are a bit steep. There are only 50 seats on the DERM. The rates are as follows:

Full trip: Newport – Maryborough and return to SCS $120
Half trip: $80
Individual sections: $30

If you are interested in coming along on the day for all or part of the journey, please let me know immediately as the seats will disappear very quickly. It will be a great day.
