Rail Revival Train

After organizing a successful train from Maryborough to Melbourne for the 2014 election that proved conclusively that a passenger service could link the regional centres of Geelong, Ballarat and Maryborough.

Unfortunately, Bendigo missed out because of the closure of the Castlemaine to Maryborough section of the rail line.

The Rail Revival Alliance Victoria is again organizing a train from Newport via Geelong, Ballarat, Maryborough to Dunolly.

The purpose of the train is to maintain the pressure on the political parties coming up to the election, to honour their policies and commitment to extend the Maryborough passenger service to Dunolly.

The Rail Revival Alliance Victoria has been advocating and lobbying to increase the rail network, so that country and regional Victorians have the same access and entitlement to efficient and punctual passenger rail services as the people who reside in Melbourne.

The train to Dunolly will be the first passenger rail service to the town since 1981, when the Hamer Liberal Government closed the Dunolly Railway Station to passenger services on Sunday, 4 October 1981 along with 35 other country railway stations that were closed that day by Melbourne and Country politicians.
